Future Humans!
It’s Friday and it feels good to be a human! This week we have been having a lot of discussions about how we want AI to work for us. Of course, this means watching a lot of movies and reading books!
Also, I’ve personally gone deep into the throws of planning my work with AI helpers. You are going to love what I’ve come up with :)
And finally… the best recommendations for digital artwork this week. Enjoy!
Sci-fi Thoughts
We are in the process of creating Super Humans, and we are also in the process of creating Super Intelligence. They aren’t necessarily the same thing. Super Humans are those who have developed physical and intellectual capacity beyond our current form. Think about this for a moment.
We currently live in a world where we are, more or less, all the same! Homo Sapiens have conquered all other species, including our close genetic relatives, and now we are alone at the top. But, we are putting aside our victory to reintroduce variability in our species once again. Within our homo family, we have been willing to resort to genocide to reduce differences, why are we now creating new distinctions in our species? It’s almost like we don’t know how good we have it right now.
To create Super Intelligence we are resorting to computational power beyond our own grey matter. So it seems unlikely that the scale of the hardware needed for Super Intelligence will allow for it to reside within a single mind alone, but will need to be networked into human minds. We’ve already begun, right Alexa?
The latest fear about AI has risen because we are afraid that it will be separate from us. We’ll have no control and will become lower on the food chain. Artificial intelligence will develop new languages that we cannot understand or decode. We are afraid that Artificial Intelligence will reside in non-human robots disguised as humans. We won’t know what’s real or artificial.
But what if it’s not separate from us? What if artificial intelligence resides primarily in humans? Imagine we could scale Super Intelligence down into a form that’s compact enough to reside within? Since our brains are really composed of two brains, imagine if we connected a third, our ‘Super Intelligence brain’, an additional lizard brain; a simple cute frog sitting on top of our head.
Yes - everything will be different. We will be networked. But we’ll feel like we are in control… enough, and remain the dominant species that we know ourselves to be.
By the way, I created this frog series, The Simplicity of Super Intelligence, using Mid-journey AI. They are like little tattooed superbrains, ready to get comfy with you.
Insight: AI planning Software
… or, Joshyzen’s Guide to Feeling Productive
A monk asked, “What is the unending depth of the deep?” Zen Master Joshu said, “Your questioning me is the unending depth of the deep.”
If you like having a busy mind then web3 is a great place to stretch out and explore. There’s such freedom in discovering new perspectives on finance, art, community and networking, creative process, and open marketplaces.
But there’s ignorance, not focusing, and just flowing into anything. Folks like me, on the creative edge, need structure more than anyone.
How does one operate creatively and productively in the most dynamic time on the planet? I say… optimize your time for creative output.
There’s a lot of AI being thrown into productivity software and I’ve begun experimenting and recently tried Motion and Reclaim.
I love testing new software products and it’s been a blast. Here’s what I learned about these platforms, and why I’m reverting to some of my legacy tech… my Google Calendar and Asana.
First of all, as a creative self-employed person, I could choose to live moment to moment without a calendar. But I do have goals! And specifically, here are my goals when using planning software:
My goals using planning software:
Be able to plan ahead for significant milestones
Have a calendar to follow when I’m not feeling inspired (do it anyway)
Keep track of the multitude of things I care about and simple steps to take, so I can make progress in any climate.
So without going into all of the features, the goal of the AI scheduling tools is to help you be more productive and save time. That’s great, but AI scheduling platforms are based on the assumption that you are going to interact with the software, indicating whether you have started a scheduled event, and when don’t interact, the software assumes your event/task needs to be rescheduled for later. This is pretty cool, but I ran into a couple of problems.
1. I don’t always interact with the software even though I AM following the calendar. This causes AI schedulers to remove the item from the calendar, as if it wasn’t done, and reschedule it. Yes, that’s kind of the point of AI, but it actually makes it harder to look at the calendar and review what actually happened.
Personally, I like to look at what I scheduled and compare how my focus matched the plan, rather than having to recall what was on the plan before it got moved by the rescheduler. And I’m not taking any criticism that it’s my fault for not interacting, because that is prioritizing the task management ahead of doing the task…no no no.
2. Habits or Routines are created as recurring tasks in an AI planner, just as they are in a non-AI planner, and recurring tasks generally create more overhead than they are worth for a small team or individual. For these, I’ve found that setting up a routine directly on my calendar is the most simple way to manage it.
Because of these two issues, I’ve decided to stick routines directly on the calendar, and schedule tasks in Asana… just like I always have. But now I’m doing it with improved integrity. What does that mean?
I’m scheduling project tasks in Asana with start and end times. Also, I’ve made one primary project in Asana that combines all of my tasks across all projects. This primary project synced with my calendar.
Now my calendar shows my daily routines, meetings, and project work. Friday afternoon I review and schedule the upcoming week.
Experimenting with AI platforms to recapture my time and be more productive has definitely lasered my focus on how I spend my time, and I’m grateful for this. For me, being productive all comes down to being clear-minded, and getting clear-minded takes practice.
Recommended NFTs This Week
This week we recommend artworks from Imposter that don’t break the bank because they are on the tezos blockchain, and they are just plain cool.
The artist Imposter creates beautifully animated holographic-type sculptures that are composed primarily of ASCII characters. For example, if you click through to this artwork on OBJKT.com you’ll drop into an endlessly emerging string of colorful characters.
You might be hard-pressed to find an artwork that is available for sale, but it can be found. Rabbit Hole has available editions.
Smash is a more recent project from Imposter on the fxHash marketplace that is tied into the Here & Now virtual reality experience. These works are not animated but are interactive, where the collector who mints the artwork participates in setting the parameters for the artwork.
